Columbus requires all short-term rental operators to obtain an annual permit for their primary residence only. Hosts must register for and remit both city (6%) and county (4%) lodging taxes, in addition to sales taxes. The permit number must be displayed on all listings.
To host an Airbnb in Columbus, you must get a $75 annual permit from the city, and you can only do it for your primary residence where you live most of the year. Before you can even apply for the permit, you need to register for a bed tax account with the city. You'll also need to show proof of $300,000 in liability insurance. Once you get your permit, you must display the number on your Airbnb listing.
