Before purchasing an STR in a new city, call five local real estate agents, identify yourself as an out-of-state investor looking to buy or rent Airbnbs and ask them about the city's policies on short-term rentals. Most may not know the answer, but one should be able to provide clarity, such as specific streets where STRs are restricted, or areas where they're allowed without restriction.
