Summary
During the construction of the Burj Al Arab hotel on a man-made island, the designers had to come up with a unique method for dissipating wave energy from strong storms. Rather than using large rocks, they designed hollow, cube-shaped structures with soccer ball shapes inside. The waves would then crash against the structure, sending water into the hollow section. The energy of the wave is dissipated, and the water shoots back the opposite way.
